Intelligence saves lives

Hi, I’ve just finished my exam today. It was pretty hard so I have spent my evening relaxing and I have read a pretty fascinating history story:

The war between The Imperial German Army and the French was so vicious, and the German received a secret message which said that the French had invented a new tank and its design was kept by General Morgan. The German then sent a spy, whose name was Hary, to steal that precious design.

Morgan, who was a widower, was soon attracted by Hary. She was soon invited to his mansion and of course, with her talent, easily found a hidden locker.

Late night, she anaesthetized Morgan and came to the locker, which was secured by a 6-digit password. She couldnt calculate the needed time to try all the password, so she called a mathematicican and asked for the needed time: If she assume each try took 1 second, she must have at least 12 days to try. So she had to try something else: she suddenly remembered that Morgan had forgetfulness so he must have saved the password somewhere with him.

She rummaged his overcoat and found a dead clock which showed 9:35:15. So she tried 093515 but it was incorrect. Again, she tried 213515 and it worked. The design was later sent back to Berlin, which helped the German to design a type of heavy machine gun and later won that war.

There is a famous problem that you can also tried and if you find a solution, don’t hesitate to send me so that I can give you some special gifts:

How many clicks did Hary need at least to try every code from 000001 to 999999?
